saturday stuff...

Img_2229 I wanted to show our stairway area.  The wall leading up the stairs is hand painted with a crosshatch design and Fleur d' Les.  It looks a bit like wallpaper, but it's all hand painted.  I can't take credit for it though as it was here when we moved in.  It was just part of what made me love the house.  Whoever painted it had incredible patience...and a love of geometry I think.

Here is a close up of the Fleur d' Les.  Each Fleur d' Les has gold leafing on it.  Not sure if you can tell very well by the picture.

I also wanted show the opposite view from the stairs.

The paint in the living room is a pale grey.  The picture on the wall is one of my grandma and two of her sisters.  My grandma is the baby on the right - sitting up the highest.  Her name was Mildred.

Pictured below is the mirror that hangs at the bottom of the stairs.  Reflected is the chest of drawers, which sits next to the stairs. I wish you could see the mirror itself better.  It's an antique and is black with gold leafing around it.  The glass is mottled, which I love.  I used a ribbon to hang it on the wall.

Have a great weekend everyone!

family time...and a big 'ol cow

Steve, Evy, and I were out of town for a long weekend in North Dakota, but we're back and I'm ready to get caught up with you.  My grandpa lives in a very small town near Bismarck, ND and we went to see him while my mom was also there visiting.  It was NON-stop eating, playing games, hanging out, and watching movies.  Seriously, it couldn't have been better.  AND, there was a very big cow...named Sue...New Salem Sue.  I can feel the envy permeating from the Internet as you all simultaneously think, "I must find this place called New Salem, I must see that cow".  Here is a preview.

And at the end of a busy day of eating, playing games, and visiting with New Salem Sue, it was time to get some shut eye in Grandma's excellent flowered sheets and chenille bedspread - so cute.

a crafty sort of thing...

I spent a bit of time crafting this weekend.  This is what I made.

Img_2107

I'm not sure if you can tell, but there are two pockets, and within each pocket are tags that I made, and little bits of this and that for embellishment  The paper and the template for the hanging pockets is from Paper Bella.  I really enjoyed making the tags and deciding what to put on each one.  I sort of felt obsessed about it - I even dreamt about making tags last night - and then thought about it all day today :o)

Here are some close ups of the tags.

I really love the colors, the patterns, and the embellishments

And one more.

I'm going to make a crown next - stay tuned for that!

Evy's room...

Sweet Seat -

A close up of the material on the bench.  The bench is an antique that I got when I first went to college.  The material I found in an antique shop in Buffalo - it isn't old, but it looks like it is.

Frilly Flowers:

These sheets are from the Simply Shabby Chic line at Target (specifically in the children's area).  The pillow was a gift from my mom.

Beloved Buddy:

Img_2091

This is Evy's friend Sophie - a very beloved friend.  When Sophie got a bed, Evy was very excited that they both had "big girl" beds.   She loves to tuck Sophie in and say good night to her.

I hope you're all having a great weekend so far.  Evy and I made homemade pancakes this morning.  We made an executive decision that some of the pancakes should have chocolate chips in them.  It was a wise decision - yum.  I'm working on a project today.  I'll soon show you the end result (fingers crossed).  Hope it turns out okay.

Also, it is my wonderful mom's birthday today.  I wish I could be with you to celebrate, but I will see you next week.  I love you so much.  Thank you for being such a great mom, and such a huge part of my life :o)

Have a great day every one!!
