halloween countdown...

Oc_07_321_2

This is Miss Pumpkin.  She lives in Disneyland.  I'm not sure where exactly she lives in Disneyland, but I do know that she dates the local constable.  I very much wish that I lived in a town with a Miss Pumpkin who dresses like this one, and sings and dances.  Aren't they cute?  Also, can you see in the back ground of the first picture, the guy in the dark blue t-shirt standing over on the right side - sort of posing like Big Foot walking through the forest (not that he resembles a Sasquatch) - that's Steve who just happened to be in the picture and we didn't realize it until much later.  I was following Miss Pumpkin around while she was dancing so that I could get a good picture of her and I guess I got quite a ways from where we had been standing.

I had to share Miss Pumpkin with you before Halloween had come and gone.  Jeez that's a great costume.

This was another great Halloween display at Disneyland.  They do a really good job of decorating - it actually increased my enjoyment level even more to see all of the Halloween decorations while we were there.

And, back at the ranch - the dining room table.  I just realized that the gourd on the table, to the left looks like it's plastic, but it is real - sheesh, could it be more shiny?

Img_0011

Little hanging black cat.  He's made the same way as a hook rug - I did not make him though.  Heck, I can't even remember where I got him.  Yes, my memory is like a finely tuned machine.

Img_0140_2

Another cabinet picture from a different angle - as seen a couple of posts ago.  My grandpa got me that calendar and I like the pictures so much.  I can always depend on my grandpa to get me a very cute calendar for the kitchen.

I just realized that I was going to show pictures of the journal that I did for Shelley.  I'll show it/them in the next post.  I say them because somehow I ended up doing two - because I can't let things alone.  One became two and that's how it went.

Also, did want to report back that I think my memory is improving (despite not remember where black cat hanging guy came from).  I've been doing Sudoku every night before bed and really concentrating on making myself remember names and details.  Anyhoo, just wanted to let you know that I think it's paying off.  And I'm getting a lot better at Sudoku too.  Sometimes for fun I'll see how fast I can do an easier one (like a one star).  Friday night I did one in three minutes.  I'm working on a four star Sudoku now.  My life is riveting.  A real nail biter of a blog.  I can see why you stay tuned.  What will she do next ? - will it be Sudoku, watching High School Musical again, wait, hold on, maybe she'll be petting her cat with the left hand instead of the right.  It's almost too exciting.  Until the next unpredictable post, I hope you and your families are well.

I've been tagged....

A few people tagged me to divulge "7 weird things about myself" .  I have to say that I'm not quite as weird as I used to be - maybe having a child has broken me of some of my quirky, and totally useless habits that I once had.  However, there is still plenty of weirdness about me (and I'll maybe add a couple of factoids about myself, rather than just weird things - I do want you to come back after all).  And there will probably be more than 7 things - I'm rolling with it and we'll see where it goes.

1.) I love "High School Musical" - you know, from the Disney channel.  I have seen it three times - so far, and have the soundtrack.  Just a reminder...I'm 34 years old.

2.) In that same vein, I also love "Hannah Montana", and "She's so Raven".  Both are from the Disney channel, and both have me in stitches every time - I am not watching them with my daughter, I'm usually watching them alone, or with Steve.  There have been occasions while watching both shows that Diet Coke has very nearly sprayed from my mouth and nose during a particularly funny moment.  Again, sheepish reminder of above mentioned age.

3.) I drink Diet Coke (love Diet Coke), and before I open the can I tap on the top 8 times.  Then I crack it open. Tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap....crack.  Not 3 times, not 6....8 times.  It's something about it being an even number, and well, it just feels right.  I know, it's weird, and when I'm in public I try and do it discreetly so that I don't call attention to myself.  I think it is sort of like people with OCD who have to touch something every time they see it, or do something a certain number of times...anyway, I don't think I have OCD, but perhaps I'm just a feverish hand scrubbing away from a new disorder.

4.) I pick at my fingers - have done since high school.  I don't bite my nails, but I'm always picking at hang nails and my cuticles.  I often hide my fingers when I'm writing checks in  a store, or giving my credit card because I don't want people to see.  I get manicures sometimes which helps for a while because I want to keep them looking nice.  The finger picking thing drives Steve bonkers.

5.) I rigidly follow the same morning and nighttime skincare routine.  Unless I'm very sick, I always follow my multi-step regimen - there are nine things twice a day that go on my face prior to make up, or going to bed.  I've always tried to take good care of my skin - my mom was and is like that too.  At any rate, nine steps - needless to say, it's not a quick pop in and pop out of the bathroom to wash my face.  My roommate in college was one of those people who washed her skin with what ever soap happened to be in the vicinity and then would maybe slap some body lotion on her face.  She had flawless peaches and cream skin - I find that totally annoying.

6.) I love mysteries...it's been more like a life long affair.  I wanted to be a detective when I was in 3rd grade.  That dream didn't end until my senior year in high school when I decided not to go into law enforcement and criminology.  Through elementary school  (until Junior High) I had a sign that hung on the front of my desk that read, "Baker P.I. - cases 25 cents".  Baker is my maiden name.  In 5th grade, Tina hired me to find her missing homework.  I was thrilled...and then shortly after she told me she found it in her desk.  A bit of a let down.  I also created my own crime scene investigation kit (before CSI had ever been heard of).  I had powder for dusting for finger prints, tape to lift the finger prints, magnifying glass, notebooks for writing down clues....I kept all of this stuff in a tackle box that I would tote around with me.  I also had a club with other kids, where I was the president (of course) and we solved mysteries - or more accurately, we waited around in the hopes of there being something mysterious some where that we could investigate.  We even had whistles and a certain "call" we would do with our whistles in case one of us was in trouble.  In High School I worked at the police department - in the detectives devision.  I was sort of like an intern - my counselor at school arranged it for me.  It was very fun.  And now I'm in IT.....sigh.

7.) At work I have a certain routine that I follow in the morning.  I get coffee at the same place and always order the same thing (a large Carmel mocha with three espresso shots).  I take my liquid gold up to my desk and set it to the "left" of my laptop.  My planner goes to the "right" of my laptop.  I always leave a daily greeting on my voicemail - which is exactly the same every day except for the date.  I always have a written, prioritized list of everything that I want to get done that day, which rarely gets done due to ensuing chaos from almost the second I sit down.  I guess because my job is so crazy I have those certain little things that I do to try and bring order to the craziness.

8.) I love handbags...if I could marry them and be a bigamist I would.  Most of my handbags are large because I like to have plenty of space to put all my stuff that goes from bag to bag.  I try and keep things contained so that moving them almost every day - and sometimes multiple times as day from bag to bag doesn't take very long.  I have my wallet, makeup bag, sunglasses case, small picture album with family photos, my bluetooth ear piece, and my cell phone.  I also have cloth bags that I keep my handbags in so that they stay nice.  They sit upon a shelf in my closet.  I give them a little wink, a nod, and a few loving words of encouragement when I go into my closet for something.

9.) I can look at a big grouping of things and very quickly count how many things are there.  This works especially well in spread sheets, lists of people's names, piles of stuff.  I don't know why I can do this, and didn't discover that I could until I was in my early 20's.  It is useful though.

10.) I danced in the Lord Mayor of Westminster's New Year's Day parade in London, England when I was 18.  I was chosen from a cheerleading and dance competition that I was in when I was a cheerleader in high school.  That was an amazing experience.

I'm supposed to tag seven other people, but I have a feeling that most people have already been tagged.  If you've already done the 7 weird things then disregard, but hopefully some haven't: Kim from Daisy Cottage, Kim from Vintage Pretties, Tina from Cherry Hill Cottage, Karla from Sugar Bear Designs, Kari from Artsy Mama, Aina from Modern Country, and Jen from The Cottage Nest.

Charmed, I'm Sure....

Img_1640_3     These are the goodies that I received in the mail after a recent order from Sally Jean.  I ordered the charms and she sent them in that cute box, with a business card, and the candy necklace.  I'm sure many of you have heard of her before and maybe have some of her amazing creations.  I will certainly be getting more from her - she is so talented.  The paper everything is sitting on is from 7Gypsies, and is part of a larger project that I am working on from Paper Bella - see what project will look like at this link.

They have designs/words on each side.  I haven't gotten the charms attached to my charm bracelet yet, but when I do I think it will look something like this.

Img_1644 Steve and I hung new drapes and drapery rods in our bedroom last weekend, coffee-colored velvet to go with that robin's egg blue on the walls.  I will be taking some pictures of them and post them soon.  Best wishes and hopes of a relaxing weekend for you :o)

Bicycles and "Baway Swippers"...

Img_1639_2  If you read Saturday's post you must have been dying to see how this baway swipper thing worked out - who wouldn't.  Well, you'll all be happy to know that Miss Evy did get baway swippers, and, as it would happen, I too some how ended up with baway, I mean ballet flats, not exactly slippers, but how could I pass up this ridiculously cute plaid.  I'm human folks, a mere mortal.  There's only so much I can handle.  Evy is currently squealing with complete delight to see the picture of our feet as I type this post.  I'm glad to know that at least for now, it's the little things that bring her so much joy.

And, I just wanted you to see my beautiful, wonderful bike that Steve got for me about           1 & 1/2 years ago.  This picture was taken in the fall so I have mums in the basket.  As for how I got this bike, Steve reads me like a 3rd grade chapter book.  He knows what I want before I utter a word, and often before I ever think it on my own.  I got a winner and a half with him and he'll never know life without me, as long as I can help it.  Ehem, right, the bike - okay.  The type of bike is a Raleigh and I've included a link.  I don't think they make it in black any longer - I didn't see it on the website.  The amazing basket is from Cynthia's Twigs.  You can choose from a blue liner or red.  I LOVE this bike.  Oh, and I got a little bell to go on it as well (I had to have a bell or I might as well not even bothered - I'm sure you understand (wink)).

Like Evy and her baway swippers, it's the little things that get me excited too.  A bike from my sweetie, a basket, some flowers, things that make me smile - the kind of smile that makes my eyes squinch up.   Best wishes to you all.

Is there such a thing as too many books & magazines?

Img_1415

And the answer is a resounding "no".  No there isn't such a thing as too many.  People might tell you there's a limit, but actually there isn't.  I checked...looked it up, and that's how I know.  So, question answered then.  For me personally, I can't get enough.  I just received four new books from Amazon (well not "from" Amazon, that would be nice - they didn't say, "hey, you are so awesome that we (Amazon) would like to give you books and what ever else you want").  Sadly that didn't happen.  At any rate, I'm sure many of you have these already, but if you haven't, I can highly recommend them.  Cabbages & Roses Vintage Chic, The French-Inspired Home, Where Women Create, and Romantic Home Sewing (from the Cabbages & Roses author).   I walk around clutching my books to my chest, fortified by my close proximity to them.  I like to have them close by so that I can reach over and lay my hand on them, give them a Little rub, and open for a quick peek.  Sometimes I just sit with one open on my lap because it makes me smile.  Same goes for the magazines - to the point that, and I'm a bit ashamed of this, but I have a Home Companion subscription (thank you Mom), and I couldn't wait for the new one to get to me....they really know how to drive me crazy (on the stands but not in my mail box).  So, I went to Barnes and Noble yesterday and bought the new one, knowing that when my subscription came in the mail (probably within 2-3 days) I would feel very sheepish indeed.  But how can you hold back when there was such loveliness on the cover.  I also bought Cottage Style so I could see Tina's kitchen island.  And then I couldn't not get the British Country Living, and the British In Style...I'm weak people...weak and easily manipulated and influenced by pretty magazine covers.  All I can say is it's a good thing that magazines and books feed my addiction...because there are so many worse things out there.  Am I right!?  Am I right!  It's all so easily justified now.

Img_1416

Okay, and the other thing that feeds my addiction is watching mysteries.  Tonight it was Hart to Hart.  And popcorn.  And dark chocolate with orange zest.  And Diet Coke (which can never be left out).

Img_1417

Chocolate and Country Home magazine.  Now that's good stuff.

Message of the day, feed your addictions, it might actually be the best thing for you!

Oh, and thank all so much for the very kind words about the new look of my blog.  I'm still floating on a cloud about it.  Thank you wonderful blogging friends :o)
