Evy's Room

January 27, 2008

the odds and ends of january....

I've had a number of pictures to post lately, none of which seem to relate much to one another.  I guess there doesn't need to be a theme exactly, it's just nice when there is one...says me.  Odds and ends, mixed with a bit of this and that are okay too.  When my mom was here she and I fixed up an old crib that had been used by my great grandma for her six baby girls.  It stayed in our family and was used by my mom for her dolls when she was growing up.  I painted it and my mom made a nice cushion for the bottom of it.  Evy's babies have a new place to take a nap now.

My mom sewed different colored buttons on the end of the cushion for the enclosure.

                                                                                                                                  Img_2720

This is a slate that got on Saturday at Haupt Antiek in Rosemount, MN

Img_2727I got this little "mother" box at Hunt and Gather in Minneapolis, MN.  It's been featured in Country Living and is just 20 minutes from my home. I also got an old clarinet there as well and have it next to my old trumpet.

Img_2729And now for the important stuff.  I purchased several goodies from Rosemary who makes fantastic creations - the kind of wonderful goodies that just make you smile.  This is one of the cones that I got from her.  She sent me two because she wasn't sure which color I would like better.  I love them both!  This one hangs on the french doors between the living room and the family room.

Img_2730This is the second cone, which works perfectly in my bedroom.  It actually hangs from my nightstand, but the lighting wasn't as good there so I moved it to the door.  I also got the little "Dream" banner that is set in the top of the cone.

Img_2733For some reason my camera wouldn't quite focus in on the little box, but I'm sure you can still see how lovely it is.  It sits on my night stand atop "Jane Austen's Guide to Good Manners; Compliments, Charades & Horrible Blunders"

Img_2734And this...this is the wonderful crown that Rosemary made.  I just love it!  I love it all and am so glad to have her beautiful creations in my home.  She is so detailed and uses such pretty materials.  Thank you Rosemary for allowing me to purchase these lovely  works of art!

I've recently received a couple tags and an award.  I will write about those in my next post along with some photos from my mystery bookshelf which recently received some Nancy Drew additions thanks to my very sweet and thoughtful husband.  I hope you all are well my friends.

Evy's room...

Sweet Seat -

A close up of the material on the bench.  The bench is an antique that I got when I first went to college.  The material I found in an antique shop in Buffalo - it isn't old, but it looks like it is.

Frilly Flowers:

These sheets are from the Simply Shabby Chic line at Target (specifically in the children's area).  The pillow was a gift from my mom.

Beloved Buddy:

This is Evy's friend Sophie - a very beloved friend.  When Sophie got a bed, Evy was very excited that they both had "big girl" beds.   She loves to tuck Sophie in and say good night to her.

I hope you're all having a great weekend so far.  Evy and I made homemade pancakes this morning.  We made an executive decision that some of the pancakes should have chocolate chips in them.  It was a wise decision - yum.  I'm working on a project today.  I'll soon show you the end result (fingers crossed).  Hope it turns out okay.

Also, it is my wonderful mom's birthday today.  I wish I could be with you to celebrate, but I will see you next week.  I love you so much.  Thank you for being such a great mom, and such a huge part of my life :o)

Have a great day every one!!

A bunting we will go...

I ordered the below very cute bunting from Joyce who sells her wonderful handmade items on Etsy (from Joyce's blog you can get to her Etsy shop and her Ebay shop).  Joyce had the bunting wrapped in cream and black toile tissue paper, tied with a pretty red ribbon.  She also included a really cute book mark that she had made.  It was so fun to get that package!  I took a few pictures of it.  This is in Evy's room.  The bunting lines the front of two shelves.

Closer picture.  Geez, in looking close up, I didn't get it attached very straight.  Oh well.

Another....even closer

I'll post some pictures of the snow tomorrow.  I just need to get out there with my boots and take some pictures.  It's so beautiful.

"Project"...finished

Let me just start off by saying that I'm in no way showing you my completed "project" (term used loosely) because I think I did a bang up job.  In fact, this particular "project"  really is better viewed from a distance, with eyes slightly squinted.  I did however intend to show you the finished product...so here it is, flaws and all.  As you may remember, and can see in my prior post, I wanted to try and somewhat mimic the very cute heart in Home Companion (as seen below).  I would say that mine is more of a distant relative (think 3rd cousin twice removed) to the one below.  In fact, these cousins have never met, and if they did - say there was some sort of stripy heart family reunion, mine would be the one sitting alone, all the other attractive hearts avoiding eye contact, not wanting to admit they're related.  So, as I mentioned, stand back and sort of squint at it.  I didn't have any pink ribbon on hand, nor did I have spare Scrabble letters to attach to the heart, lovingly spelling out my child's name.  But...I do have one of my grandma's vintage earrings.  It is just clasped onto the heart, easily removed for wearing when I need it.

I thought I would also throw in a few pictures of Evy's room while I'm at it.  All of the white furniture is from Target - the Simply Shabby Chic line.  I really like it a lot and the quality is great.

The wall hanging is a vintage one that my mom got for Evy.

The little Snow White is from my mom.  Evy still talks about how it was hiding in my mom's slipper when she gave it to her.  The animals in the box are finger puppets from Evy's brother Alex (or Howie as Evy calls him - and we all do too now).  The little Angelina Ballerina figure is a gift from Alex's beautiful girlfriend Mary (or Mia as Evy calls her).

The "project" again

Img_1212

A bit blurred, but this is Evy's favorite doll, Sophie - couldn't leave her out.  She loves her so much.  And look at that bed and the bedding - it's just too cute (the doll and bed are from Pottery Barn Kids).

Img_1214

This little chair was made for me when I was very little by the husband and wife who watched me during the day while my mom was at work.  Isn't it sweet.  I love it and I'm so happy to have him.

Img_1219

That momma bunny and baby bunny are made from a bed spread that my grandma had.  She had a couple of bedspreads that she had bunnies made from.  I have a white chenille set as well.  My Mom also has a set like the ones in this picture.  The little hat box holds Sophie the doll's clothes - what doll shouldn't have a hat box full of clothes.  And while we're at it, Evy has a monkey (Maggie) that has a trunk full of clothes (courtesy of my mom at Christmas - the monkey and the clothes).  Have a wonderful day!!
