Many of the treasures I have are from my grandparents - lovely remembrances of generations past. I have beautiful pieces from my great grandparent's wedding, Victorian calling cards from their visitors in the early 1900's. Teacups and saucers, postcards, dishes...I'm very fortunate indeed that my family cherished these items. Many of the dishes are in this built-in cabinet in our living room. When I look at them I feel connected to generations past, and know that they would be very pleased that I am caring for their keepsakes, making sure they are around for the generations that will follow me.
This is the built-in corner cabinet in our living room, chock full of treasures.
Wanted to show the whole thing.
The teacups here are very old, as is the frame and postcard behind it. You can click on it to get a closer look, but it is a Christmas postcard to my greatgrandparents that is written in Norwegian. On the back of the postcard it says, "To Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Pederson, From Inga Inslany December 23, 1911
I know I keep showing glimpses of my couches, but I just love them. I had them slip-covered and new pillows made two years ago. Picking out the fabric and deciding what fabric would go where was very fun. I love being in here and sitting, scrunched into the pillows with a fire going - usually looking up occasionally from my book or magazine to view the mystery nook, as shown in below post. The view makes me smile.
I love how the fabric from the curtains mixes with the sofa and pillows - my heart is actually smiling when I look at this (aside from the one on my face).
A supply of comforting home magazines is at the ready
This chair was refinished by my grandma, and look at that cross stitch she did for the seat. I love this rocking chair. The lovely pillow was found in Idaho when my mom and I were antiquing. I know that everyone has their own "comforts of home". These are just a few of mine. Have a wonderful day :o)
What an enjoyable post! How very special that you have these treasures from your family..... and they are beautiful things too!!
I can so relate to what you said about occasionally looking up from your magazine to enjoy the view of your home. I do that too! True contentment.......

Beautiful display with the rose-red background in your corner cabinet. Really makes the china stand out. Love the gingham puddling drapes, too.

Oh so very pretty!! How lucky you are to have such family treasures!! I have my grandmothers wedding dishes, sadly they are in tubs in the garage because I have no place to store them...But I know they are there and that is a comfort.

Your home is absolutely gorgeous. Thanks so much for sharing pictures. You asked me about where I buy my craft supplies. For scrapbook supplies (i.e. paper) I go to ArtsyTartsy here in Plymouth or Archiver's. For vintage goodies I go to estate sales...love them! See the goldmine I found today on my blog!! For the book itself on this project, I just used "jumbo" sized brown paper lunch bags. Cheap at the supermarket! I folded them in half and punched holes and put ribbon through to bind them. Couldn't be much easier and FUN than that! Give it a try. I'll bet yours will be fabulous. Let me know if you have any questions [email protected]
Thanks
Kari

Allie - we were on the same wavelength yesterday, sharing memories of our beloved Grandmothers! Always hold on to those beautiful things and pass them along to your sweet daughter. Now I'm a Grandma I'm happy to know my precious pieces of china will be used many years from now by someone special in our family. Enjoy your week.
Sending Spring breezes your way - they are very warm this week.

Your home is beautiful. Unfortunately I'm not very good at keeping china displayed, I prefer to use it, and always use a tea cup an saucer, I just hate mugs !

Hi Allison~
I had several days of your blogs to catch up on. As always, you make me laugh. Your rambling a few posts ago about pictures from your bedroom had me laughing out loud. I'll check back in another few days...as always, your house is spectacular!
